Jason,
First, know that the code pops up after a few failures. You can check the board for how the code is triggered. So, if you just want to pass inspection, go to Auto Zone on your way to the inspection and you should be good to pass. Some one may (rightly) prove me wrong.
Second, I had a bad experience with a MAF code. The end result was that I paid the dealer to replace the MAF and other things over three trips (and $900) to address the CEL. It was never fixed. Indy mechanic (Leo Luck's in Cleveland, who has many Angie's List awards) found a vacuum leak was causing the problem. A $15 hose was replaced and fixed the problem. Bottom line, check for leaks before going the MAF route.
