Did you find the "fault tracing tree" in WIS that I mentioned?
The second test in WIS outlines testing the pin 36 on ECU to pin 85 on relay for good ground function (5 pulses of ground) when the key is turned on the second time.
So the problem was in that big H42-5 connector on the firewall mounted above heater bypass valve and protected by a plastic cover?
I'm glad you found it even though I didn't lead you straight to the right answer.
Man made problems are the worst to find. The ones that the car comes up with themself is much easier to solve.
