A very troubling day in the life of my 2000 9-5 Aero… This has been the first major failure that has stranded me and might I add a quite dangerous one too. I was one my way home from the dealership which just slapped me with a massive bill (rear shocks, P-Brake cable line, shift-shaft seal, oil change) and while at about 75 MPH my car began bucking, turbo needle went crazy, several flashing CEL's and then stalled out on the highway. Several attempts to restart the car yielded a few seconds of harsh idling and then stalling out. This left me stranded on a limited access highway--narrow break down lane (Merritt Parkway in Southern CT) while I awaited a tow.
Once towed to a safe location I swapped out the DI thinking these are some of the typical symptoms for that--I had no luck. A restart with a different good DI produced the same issues with some smoke from the engine bay. The car now sits in a dealership awaiting a $95/hr diagnosis tomorrow.
This car has been meticulously maintained by myself and the dealer. I'd like to keep my enthusiasm for this car and hope I am not walking into another huge service bill. I realize my mileage is getting up there (120k), but does anyone have any thoughts on what could be the issue? Also at what service costs per year do you feel justifies the continued ownership of the car versus purchasing a new car with warranty?
