minimal, but all slotted/drilled rotors do on the street is massage egos. Useful, though if you do track days. They may have a slight benefit in dissipating rainwater, but probably not measurable for normal driving. (note that BMW has a system that automatically and cyclically applies the brakes ever so slightly in heavy rain to keep the rotors drier).
The biggest difference in braking performance comes with larger rotors and calipers because swept area--the area of rotor against which the pad is applied under braking is increased. This in turn generates a greater coefficient of friction.
If this area of friction makes no difference (as you claim) then why are bigger rotors, calipers and pads used on race cars, airplanes, and even bicycles? It is the combination of force (pistons pushing on the pads) *and* friction (swept area of the pad on the rotor) that slow the wheel.
The extra force means more heat, so big rotors are usually cross-drilled and/or slotted to aid heat dissipation and outgassing.
And we are missing the final component, tires, which also have a big impact on how well a car stops.
