The coefficient of friction is a dimensionless number so a larger swept area will not increase it.
But, just as wider tires generate more traction due to increased area in the shear force calculation, larger pads generate more shear force also due to larger area and there is a shear component to braking also. In order to fit larger pads, and have exposed rotor surface for brake cooling, larger rotors are required. The larger rotors will also move the pad further from the wheel's rotational axis for greater effectiveness.
And tires are very important too.
