Before I sound like a totally usless DIY on such an easy job, this has been my encounter of replacing the lithium batteries in the theft alarm. My "service theft alarm" came on a half dozen times over the last month. After reading all the posts on the symptoms and how easy the job is, I thought, no problem! I have encountered the following.

Purchased from Batteries Plus, but local franchise owner wouldn't touch the solder job due to circut board. My attempts didn't work as I couldn't get a good angle with solder gun on the connectors and solder never bubbled up. Then, I noticed epoxy covers the base of the metal conncetors on both sides of the outside battery and much of the bottom of that battery. I used a sharpe knife and razor on the epoxy with a little success, but couldn't put a dent in the epoxy where the battery meets the metal connectors. The razor bent due to strength of epoxy. I appreciate those who answered my post last week on this item.

The reputable local radio repair shop was going to charge $125 as he would heat up the epoxy in addition to unsoldering the batteries. He said the job can take 1-2 hours due to circut board and attention to detail is a must. Most important, he checked existing batteries AND current. Both had plenty of juice.

The fact that the current and batteries are both good makes me think the problem is not the batteries. I am thinking of putting it back together, taking to Indy who has a Tech II, have him run diagonstic to see what specific codes come up (siren, sensors, etc) for the hell of it. Regardless of the codes, I'll probably just have him turn off the alarm and call it a day. I don't feel like spending $300+ on the alarm system as money it tight and $300+ on brakes is more important.

But, before I surrender to this job with my tail between my legs, appreicate any words of wisdom.......Ugh!!!!!
