... to keep rpm's up a bit between shifts to keep the turbo spinning.
In the event you're using it, that is.
I also note that down shifting (I've got a T5 5sp) doesn't provide as much engine braking as other manuals I've driven, I figure it's another side effect, if you will, of a turbo charged engine. Far from it for me to explain that, but it makes it a little more comfortable to down shift at a higher rmp, knowing the engine isn't going to protest and send me ass around.
