You didn't say that you were just looking at Saab interiors, but I'm gonna' assume that. There's been carping about every new Saab, but for me the 99-01 9-5 interiors with their rich dark walnut trim and slightly gathered seat upholstery were world class. Same sweep as the C900 dash, but thoroughly modern components and world class Harmon Kardon sound. Very cohesive design, very sophisticated looking with many buttons and controls, nice finishes, very rich with the wood all the way through the console. In 2002 the design stayed the same and the rich glossy dark burled walnut gave way to "lightwood", still real wood but a dull finish that didn't leave fingerprints like the glossy dark burled walnut. I really like lightwood when it's somewhat darkened with polish or I don't know exactly what, but I've seen it done. The aluminum look Aero does nothing for me, but the cohesive design is still there and the sport seats are wonderful. Later non Aero 04-05s came with "darkwood" almost black, hard to tell it's wood.
The 06-07s leave me cold. Yes the Black Tie is wonderful, XM, AM and FM all on the same preset line, and yes the knobs are very intuitive vs the former buttons, but I'm not fond of the new instrument faces, less total degrees and spacing in the the speedo for example. he SID is impressive to passengers on the 99-05s, but buried in the bottom of the speedo on the 06-07. The speedo's not squished on top over 85mph like the 02-05 speedo. No trim on the console is what really galls me. The change in dash texture is OK as was the darker dash of the 04-05. And the piping on the sport seats is not to my taste. The best interior in the 06-07 IMHO is the all black look with the vented seats vs the gray and darker gray mix in the 99-05 charcoal, and I'm getting used to parchment in a 9-5 and the piping's not so bad in the non vented seats in parchment too.
IMHO you'll see a big step up in the next Saab interior, just like every other GM car lately. They seem to have figured it out at GM, hope it makes it to the next Saab.
