I choose the long belt. I had heard of some folks experiencing increased vibration with the short belt. I can feel a fair amount of vibration from the PS pump (turning the wheels at very slow speeds) so I figured that the short belt would make that worse. It has been theorized that the long belt helps to dampen these vibrations.
However there are plenty of 9-5 folks happy with the short belt, and the 9-3 community seems to like it. And it is nice to take one of the pulleys out of the equation.
hey Saab, here is an idea: how about you make a decent pulley instead of a shorter belt?
anyway.
changing the belt is pretty easy. use a 6mm hex key to lock the tensioner in the loose position and then its just a matter of threading. all of the 60k items are doable.
oh and you should do the PCV update (#6) as well.
Everything in there is tight, real tight. The pulleys are not hard to get to but require some patience and small hands are an asset. (however I do not recomend asking the little lady for assistance in this matter).
I choose to replace all 3 pulleys, but I have heard that might be over kill, in that the larger pulley can last 120k ....
