Short belt questions

I am trying to decide if I should do the short belt conversion when I change my belt at 60K miles. My WIS says that the long belt has been discontinued, but my dealer still has some of the long ones available.
If I stick with the long belt should I replace all three idler/tensioner pulleys?
Also, the WIS says “in connection with belt replacement the upper tensioning roller must be removed”. Does it really? I think this is one of the pulleys that self destructs so I will probably replace it anyway, but if I don’t, does it really need to be removed for replacing the belt?
I consider myself an above average DIYer but I have never replaced a belt on any car engine before, so I want to do it right. My dealer wants $695 for the 60K service and most of the things they do seem within my skill level.
Any input/opinions on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
