'02 Aero thermostat replacement Posted by ChuckD [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Dear Freinds,
(who remembers the Firesign Theater?)
Looks like either the temp sensor or the t-stat has failed. Noticed a couple weeks ago the temp wouldn't come up to 9 o'clock. Over time it fluctuated around 8 and 8. Tonight coming home it never got off L. This weekend we had a 500 mile road trip planned, of course.
The car's got 112K so I'm just going to assume t-stat and sensor. Despite regular service records, I've no proof these were ever replaced (why, oh why won't they itemize what they do to your car?).
I did some digging around here and am still not clear if replacing this is a Big Deal or small. I've done thermostats before (and plenty of much bigger jobs), but the last was a '74 99 which was pretty easy. Can someone straighten me out on this?
Can I do it tomorrow in my driveway?
Does it require a full drain of the system?
Up on ramps?
Special tools (socket extenders, right ahgles, etc.)?
Part numbers for the t-stat and sensor?
Available as non-OEM?
Thanks.
