might be ok, but do check. Posted by bobc [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Burning Rubber, wrgasaaber, Thu, 1 Mar 2007 11:53:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
when my heat control valve went it sprayed coolant in various nooks and crannies of the engine and transmission. It took quite a while for the coolant to burn off and for the smell to dissipate. a few days as I recall.
BUT a few things to be aware of:
- dont ignore the low coolant message. check the coolant resivoir. if it is low or empty find out where the leak is. Dont drive the car if you are losing coolant.
- FWIW I had very unusual leak in my Aero. there was a slit in the heater hose, and would only leak under pressure. So I would fill up the resivoir, and look for the leak while the car idled ... nothing. Take it for a drive and coolant would spray all over the engine compartment. So check for leaks whlie someone reves up the engine.
- And finally, if the smell is really "burnt rubber" check the belt and tensioner in particular. if the tensioner is wearing, it will cause the serp belt to ride "off the track" slightly, causing that burnt rubber smell and wafts of smoke. (and drasticly shorten the life of the belt)
