I don't think that recommended service intervals are listed to serve us best. I think there are some politics involved.
brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, and collects dirt as the seals in the system slowly dissolve & wear. The moisture makes the fluid more compressible (bad) and lowers its boiling point (bad). and the moisture causes pitting and rust spots. the pitting accelerates seal wear. the wearing seals make the fluid more dirty. etc etc.
just my 2 cents but I think waiting for a symptom is waiting too long.
besides, consider the cost of a quart of brake fluid vs cost of a new master or caliper.
OTOH, take a look at the brake fluid. is it clear? take a look at the tranny fluid. is it clear pink? smell clean or burnt? if they look and smell good then yea, maybe you can postpone ...
