Eye candy for most of us, but I have one.... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 18 Apr 2007 14:43:11 In Reply to: Bypass valve replacement, Don S., Wed, 18 Apr 2007 13:47:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Unless you also change the ECU program (not many choices for the V6) to accomodate/require a higher turbo pressure, a "high performance" By Pass Valve is primarily for appearance only.
The plastic Bosch unit usually lasts 100,000 miles and costs around $65 to purchase when it eventually fails. The shiny or electroplated aluminum ones cost twice as much. The piston style BPV needs annual service for greasing, the re-buildable diaphragm style like I have requires diaphragm replacement when the old membrane tears (Forge has provided me new diaphragms for free so far).
I think my Forge BPV looks better than the stock, I can rebuild it when it fails, but there usually is no cost advantage to these and only a performance advantage for the few owners who tune their car for absolute maximum performance.
Nothing wrong with buying one for the sake of engine bay appearance, but don't expect increased performance.
