I'd indirectly lay the responsibility back to Saab for your expense. The PCV system was inadequately designed in the 1st place, and unless a car is still under warranty and exhibiting issues tied to the PCV - such as oil leaks or excessive oil consumption, Saab has chosen to wash their hands of assisting owners with the retro work - work which many believe is crucial to avoiding sludge, oil leaks, etc.
Some owners do factor in how a company handles these types of situations when considering whether to stay with the brand . The way the DI situation was handle didn't sit well with some owners as well.
