the 9000 and 9-5. See link below.
Mind you that the 9-5 has gradual improvements through the years. I think a well maintained 2002/2003 is a reasonable bet. I suggest a late built 2003 9-5 Aero.
Saab started to decontent from 2004 but improved on some mechanicals such as suspension and PVC.
I mentioned before that wife has a 2003 9-5 Aero auto. I haven't found any PVC problem so I haven't done the PVC mod. Oil consumption is practically zero between oil changes but we put on only 8,000 miles a year or so on the 9-5. I believe in 2002-03 years, you do the PVC mod if you see abnormal oil consumption.
I requested full synthetic oil after the first year during the free maintenance period and I do annual oil change after that (given the low miles per year driven).
The auto and manual Aero have same power rating when Saab switched to the newer auto transmission. The manual Aero has an overboost feature that boosts the torque to just over 270 lb-ft for 30s (??) or so.
What you don't get in the 9-5 Aero is the hold-on-to-your-hat type surge from 2nd/3rd many 9K owners used to like. The boost in the 9-5 is more subdue and smoother. If you opt for an auto 9-5 Aero, press the "S" button and step on it then you would hit warp speed in no time and it is much smoother than any 9000.
