Link between failed fuel pump and failing cabin fan? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I posted about my failed fuel pump last Sunday and Monday. On Monday evening I picked up my car after having the fuel pump and the oil pressure sensing unit replaced at the Dealership. Everything was fine on the drive home, but later, when I restarted the warm car for a quick restaurant run, the cabin fan did not immediately come on. Rather it started a minute or so into the drive. Weird.
Every day since then has had the same results. The cabin fan starts immediately upon the initial cool morning start-up, and starts immediately for the afternoon drive home IF the day was cool. If the day was warm and sunny, or if the engine compartment is still warm from a previously drive, the fan will not run until a minute or so after the engine is started and the drive has commenced.
So far the fan has always started, just not immdiately sometimes. Manual fan speed selection and ACC recalibration have no affect during these delayed fan starts.
My car is a 2000 with 197,000 miles on the odometer so it is not really strange if the fan (or controller) has started its death throes. But the timing of this problem being concurrent with the completion of the other repairs is very suspect - at least to me. I am not accusing the mechanic of doing anything wrong, but I still wonder if there may be a connection between these events.
Things that have crossed my mind include:
Common, or immediatey adjacent, fuse that may not be correctly inserted.
Common, or immediately adjacent, electrical connections which needed to be opened to perform repair and are maybe not securely relatched.
Download of a new control program for the ACC system per an uknown TSB or Bulletin.
Weak battery, my battery is 2 years old and may have been stressed by my restart attempts plus whatever power drawdown was necessary/done during diagnosis and repair of the found problems.
Any ideas or comments? BTW - my WIS identifies the electrical connector to be opened and shorted with a heavy gage jumper wire to diagnose a bad blower motor via a 4 digit number. It is one of the three connectors above the filter access door on the side of the HVAC unit, but which connector? Are they numered? Is it the only two wire connector?
Thanks.
