The scope I used was a Fluke 97 (50 MHz) along with a Snap-On EETA308A low Amp probe (20a or 40A full scale). The scope was definite overkill for the job with the exception that this one does not have store-to-computer capability.
The signal for the fuel pump you are trying to read is in the 0.5 to 1KHz range. So, for this particular job, the 20MHz scope would also do quite well. To be perfectly honest with you, unless you are analyzing the rise and fall times of the high speed CAN communication bus on a car, a 20MHz scope is a good fit for the job.
One more tid-bit: To measure the current, I made a jumper to replace the fuel pump fuse. It consisted of about 2' of 16AWG wire with one small crimp-on spade lug on each end. The current probe simply clamps around the wire.
