Unless there is a direct correlation between specific work performed by the shop and the failure of the turbo, I can't see how they would bear any responsibility. Even if they performed an inspection on the turbo (which is not part of any 120k service schedule I ever saw), a lot can happen in 3000 miles.
FWIW, personally, if I performed maintenance work on a car and then had the owner return after 3000 miles of driving with an unrelated failure trying to imply that I was somehow at fault, I would (after explaining how the failures were not related, and presuming their continued skepticism) politely ask them to take their business elsewhere.
As I mentioned in response to your original post, I have been in precisely the same situation as you were. I wasn't happy about it, but them's the breaks when you keep cars long enough for stuff to wear out.
