headjob done,...but car running rough......

I recently completed a head job on a 2000 9-5 2.3 lpt automatic. Upon completion, the car started and idled rough. After running it for a while, the check engine light came on. I had a buddy hook up a tech2 to it and we pulled 2 engine codes: 1) p0300 (engine misfire) and 2) p1171 (short term fuel trim. max value, air fuel too lean). The p1171 was no big deal - found the vacum leak and dealt with it. To address the p0300, we analyze the info from the tech2 noting the "knock count" as well as "misfires". Based on these two figures, we concluded that the existing DI was bad. I replaced it with a known good one and all was well afterward - or so I thought. This morning when I went to start the car it was a hard start with a hard idle. The check engine light (which was cleared last night) came on again this morning while the car was running rough. Most likely when I pull the code this time, the p0300 will appear again.
Can anybody shed some light on this one? The rough idle is the worst when the engine is cold and is just starting up.
As always... TIA.
