Les: Does the squeak happen when the car is not moving and all you do is turn the steering?

I wonder if the tie rod end could be your noise source. It is one of the joints that moves when you are turning the wheel but the car is not rolling... but it also moves over bumps. My old Taurus did something like this and it turned out to be the tie rod end.

If it is the strut, it could be the top seal that slides along the polished rod might be dry and squeaky . However, it seems improbable that it could make the same noise both during compression/rebound and while turning the wheel. A little spray lube on the strut rod could help track it down maybe.

Come to think of it, what is supposed to rotate when steering... the rod within the strut or does the rod rotate with the strut and the top bearing you just replaced accommodates all the rotation?
