would require a huge amount of support from Scott (webmaster) and everyone who submits data. And a *lot* of data is needed for it to be meaningful or useful, along with an assortment of independent variables. And even then the real utility of the info is questionable. What are you going to do with the data? Go to court?
Take the 9-5 rear shocks, for example. While it's a known problem, from an owner's POV I don't really care how many 9-5s have had the problem. That it's a common problem is all that matters, so I know to watch for it, what to do about it. Precisely how common a problem it is may be nice to know but it still isn't necessarily predictive unless there are a *lot* of accurate stats behind it. And even then, you notice cupping, you replace the shocks. This ain't rocket science.
In the case of our '03 9-5 wagon, there was no cupping but the right rear shock was leaking at 52K miles. The CPO warranty replaced both rears.
On my two 9000s, I know heater cores, blower motors and engine mounts are common issues. I know BPC solenoids die with annoying regularity. But knowing precisely how many is useless.
Come here to learn about your car, how to fix stuff, what to watch for, and share knowledge. For this stuff, qualitative knowledge is far more practically useful than stats.
