As others note, the factory rack is a Thule, made to fit on a Saab without resorting to (largely) generic footpads.
I have the factory racks on my 9000 and use Thule J-Bar kayak holders. The nice thing with the factory bars with the pins that go sideways into the roof is that they go on and off in about 3 minutes. The J-Bars are nice because they hold the boats at an angle and you can often get something else in between the 'yaks. It's easy to get your boats on and off the J-Bar holders and they hold the boats securely. But if you hit major cross-winds it is a bit more noticeable than having the boats flat. I carry 2 rec kayaks (Old Town Loons) with no problem.
The Thule cross bar for the wagon uses a rubber strap to clamp the cross bar to the rails. The Saab factory cross bar is a mechanical connection. Price is similar. I have to get a set for my wife's 9-5.
It's true that the factory bars have a limited width. I don't usually find it an issue, but I also have a set of wider Thule bars that I've clamped to the factory bars when I needed to carry wider loads on my 9K. 4 U-bolts will do it.
IMHO, though, I don't like Thule racks because their accessories are a PITA to mount. Yakimas bars and accessories are much better. If Saab didn't have factory Thule racks I'd have Yakimas.
