Nothing is wrong with the "Saab" racks but there are advantages to getting the Thule setup. One is forward compatibility. If you think you will drive a 9-5 forever, the Saab rack is for you. But the Thule rack system has the advantage of being able to fit virtually any car in the marketplace with a new foot pack, available at a fraction of the cost of a new setup. Not so for the dedicated rack. Another big advantage I see is that the Thule system lets you choose the bar length you need. No one likes clunking their head on excessively long bars but it's a nice option to have if you want, say, two bikes and two kayaks on vacation, or a roof box and other stuff. Bottom line: there's gonna be more room for stuff on longer bars. Either system is equally secure and both are flawed in that they are considerably more difficult to install quickly than the old gutter-mount racks. I could easily install those with 2 bike carriers already attached to my Saabs and Volvos. The new feet are more finicky to install and those little pins love to scratch the roof during solo installs.
