Thanks for the idea Stephen...I'll consider that when I'm up for new winter tires.
I bought the tire+wheel package from Saab because the price was right. I wanted a separate set of wheels for winter and Saab's combo costs about the same as the wheels alone. I couldn't come close to it buying separately even if I bought used wheels in fair condition. So I think of the tires as freebies and won't keep them long if they don't suit me.
The main reason for me to have winter wheels in my mild climate is that I like to carry chains just in case I need them for the occasional trip over a mountain pass, and you can't chain the 17" wheels on an Aero. Otherwise I would have slapped on a set of 17" WR's for year-round.
