you are in a nothing to loose situation here. Here is what I would do:
1 - flush the transmission. easy to do yourself:
- buy a case of fluid (remember get the proper fluid, your '03 does NOT use DEXRON)
- drain (4qts is what will come out roughly)
- fill
- drive around the block
- repeat 2 more times.
if that improves things, take it a dealer or Indy who can update the software (is that what you mean by "change the code"?)
your tranny is software upgradeable. Of course while you are there you should get the ECU software updated as well.
These trannys are well built. Failure is rare, but not unheard of. With luck, the trans flush will get you back to solid shifting.
now, if this works I would put it on a strict drain-flush schedule. I replace 4 qts in my tranny every 8k (every other oil change)
