it can be repainted and it can be painted with a quality paint that can resist chips. a good body shop can provide a factory-level or better paint job.

It all comes down to the quality of the body shop:
- how skilled they are at surface prep.
- the quality of paint they use
- how skilled they are at applying and curing the paint.

I would find a first rate body shop. HOWEVER now that these guys botched the paint job (either by poor surface prep, or by using crap paint), that stuff has to come off.

so they are right, you can "just repaint it", not *now*.

A good shop can strip or sand it down. re-prime, apply the color coats, then the clear coats. They can get a good color match and factory finish (no swirls, holograms, etc). and it will resist chips.

Hopefully the rear bumper is holding up since it is not subjected to rocks, sand and debris.

note that if you get it re-painted you will have to wait a month or so before you can apply one of those clear stone guards (stoneguard, etc)
