you took the cap off the coolant reservoir ? Was the cap on properly (check when the car cools down) ? Now check for leaks from hoses from reservoir where you saw coolant shooting out. Look carefully, as small/medium cracks in hoses are hard to see when the leak has stopped.
If coolant is indeed shooting out where the reservoir sits, then something around that area probably have a crack or leak under pressure.
The coolant bypass valve sits way back just in front of the false fire wall, if it leaks, it's more directed toward the back and down and not likely to shoot forward.
