If you were taking out the inside part, sure--then you'd get a good look at it. I don't know what would be involved in positioning that one back in corrctly as I did not have to go that deep as it was okay, adn I was notabout to pull it out as that step is the one that takes serious dexterity. Otherwise it's somehow stare into a hole at a bad angle to try and see how the part is oriented. The motor does not have to go back on in perfect alignment as it has that 30 degrees or so of rotation available that represents the flap's range from closed to open. If it's engaged to the flap shat correctly then it will rotate the flap as you align it to be screwed back in, and then the calibration mode will set it right. But it has to be alinged to amke the proper connection, otherwise it won;t turn it properly.

BTW, I think I have a clue as to why the un-reinforced stop levers were prone to breaking, and usually on the driver's side. I think the motor will try to turn it after it hits the stop position, as long as you are holding the temp button in, and the stress can build up on it. If you are doing this by feel and not looking (as the driver should be), or not counting the steps, when taking this all the way up or down you can easily keep trying to turn the motor when you have hit the end of the range. And then, since probably there is more driving done alone, there is more of this done to the driver's side one.
