And no, I am not trying to be funny with this question.
Experience has shown that when the back seat vents are closed, the increased resistance to air flow within the A/C system will cause only air thru the heating coil to be delivered. Apparently the cooling coil has greater resistance to air flow than the heating coil, and when combined with the flow restriction caused by shut-off rear vents, the effect is heat only.
This may be a free "fix" for you.
