I have one of each' '02 Aero manual and '05 Aero auto. The auto is great off the line, not so the manual. In general, the auto seems to be a faster car. The auto really is a great match to the engine as others have noted. The auto is driven by my wife who never drove an auto box up til then and I don't think she'll ever go back. I still like the element of control offered by the manual and the greater involvement in the act of driving. But there are times you'd like to be less involved and can't be!
