Thanks. At the last minute, I found a different wagon: 9-5 Arc, all the usual stuff, 2004, 46K miles. It was listed at $17K on a Saab dealer's website. That price seems to be what all 2004 Arc wagons "start" at on the web. I was looking at Autotrader, primarily.
The car was literally 3 days out of warranty, 1-owner, excellent IRIS docs. The salesman offered to check on the CPO possibities. Came back, offered same car, CPO'd, same price. I offered 16K, which he eventually accepted. I don't think I stole the car, but it was a fair deal and we needed another wagon to replace our recently-totalled 2000 9-5. I'll have to have the car shipped (it's about 400 miles away) as going to get it would cost us at least $300 and 2 days' time, and running the risk of dicey winter weather. Shipping will probably under $500.
We've found the CPO to be very reassuring, as Saab will not agree to CPO a vehicle that isn't really already pretty good. I bought my '01 9-5 Aero as a CPO car. In the 2+ years of warranty I received, aside from a DIC (covered under Saab's internal recall thing), an assortment of interior and exterior light bulbs, and a trunk wiring harness, I didn't really get all that much beyond peace of mind. I still think it was worth it, though, because I ended up with a well-documented, trouble-free Saab.
