I completely glossed over the transmissions. With 2 similar class cars but manual vs. auto I'd indeed give the edge to the auto when hauling out watercraft. Despite the fact I have never owned anything but a manual much prefer auto for trailering especially when your stopping on a boat ramp. For me that would settle it as long as they both can haul the load.
Less concerned about the AWD vs FWD on half decent, as typical, ramps but if you get a bad one or very steep one AWD is potential positive. The auto though big plus as you can leave the vehicle running if you need to get out of the car when on the ramp (never trust just a parking brake) and it is easier to get going.
