1999 Keys Remotes Big Questions Posted by Joe [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I am new to Saabs. This whole key/remote thing is killing me. We bought a 99 9-5 that only had one key and banana remote. We wanted another key as it's a good idea. I made one trip to the dealer where I paid the $80 to get the key/head cut and shipped to the dealer.
My wife went to the dealer to get the new key programmed (I was told $55).
While she was there the service writer told her that without another remote the new key would be useless if the car had been locked with the banana remote. With that knowledge she agreed to buy another banana remote ($142). I called the dealer and they explained the same story to me.
Well, I can't imagine a car company would sell me a $130 key that wasn't smart enough to start the car. Therefore, I set the alarm with the remote and then proceeded to open/start the car. I then set the alarm with the remote and waited overnight and then proceeded to open/start the car with the key.
When I went back to the dealer (name withheld for the moment) the same service writer told me it was impossible. They also refused to go outside to see the impossible happen because they had "customers" to help. I was told "good day" and reminded that I could talk to the service manager on Monday.
I see this as pretty black and white. Either the service writer is unethical and is padding sales numbers or is ignorant of the Saab product. Am I nuts or is the dealer wrong? HELP!!!!!!
