Another 'Soob' alarm siren story :(

Ok, lets go over it quickly since it’s been discussed so many times:
-alarm going off for no reason, SERVICE THEFT ALARM
-batteries replaced June, all fine
-2 weeks ago, occasional going off, occasional message
-last night – alarm blaring, no way of shutting it down
KEY POINT:
-removed fuse 14 under the hood (disconnected siren from car battery +30 circuit) – siren started dying like an old walkman with dying batteries – batteries were obviously DRAINED (didn’t take more than a minute for it to start quietly whining).
So, finally, my question:
-what drains the batteries?
From my understanding of the system the siren is always running on car power (+30 supplied from the car battery) UNLESS car power is interrupted by disconnecting the main battery, in which case the siren (if was armed and triggered) starts blaring on its own using the backup batteries. If I have a brand new main battery and do not have a habit of disconnecting it for longer periods of time (drive car every day, no problem starting or anything) – what drained the backup batteries in the siren? I would like to hear your opinions – I am planning second attempt on battery replacement but first need to solve this puzzle, otherwise will be there again in the next 6 months…
