Re: 2003 Linear with 116k? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 2003 Linear with 116k?, B Millar ![]() ![]() |
Based on my experiences with 216,000 miles on my base model 2000, the following items are things to inspect and/or plan for:
PCV ver6.0 was not factory installed in 2003. Quick to D-I-Y and relatively inexpensive.
Pulleys for serpentine belt should all be replaced at 120K miles. You can avoid replacing the most difficult to access pulley by going the short belt route, but some owners report excessive vibration after making this change.
Water pump may be coming due, although some last considerably longer.
Fuel pump may be coming due, although some last considerably longer.
Records of proper periodic oil changes is most critical. Sludge should be a concern if the previous owner can't produce documentation of oil changes with synthetic oil. Pulling the valve cover (under $45 for a new gasket set), using a wire hook thru the oil drain plug hole, or dropping the oil pan, are all ways to check for evidence of sludge. Dropping the sump and pulling the valve cover have a cost associated with them but provide an opportunity to look for excessive wear on internal engine componenets.
I hope this helps.
