More important, no bad years... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: best years for used 9-3's?, 9k in ttown, Mon, 28 Jan 2008 11:43:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yeah you're on the wrong BB, but 9-3 or 9-5, there's not really any reason to reject a car on years. The first 9-3's were perfected NG900's, so 1999 through 2002 for sedans and through 2003 for verts, and the 9-3SS from 2003 to the current year were all pretty good.
9-5s 1999 through current are generally thought of to be a skosh better reliability wise than 9-3's, newer design, newer quality technology. And all years are OK.
Having said that if you are looking for years to avoid, the first year 9-3SS was a little "glitchy", no mechanical problems, but some software issues both from the design as well as the new "can bus" technology the mechanics weren't familiar with. By now a 2003 should be sorted out, but IMHO I wouldn't flat reject one on principle, just be more cautious. Same with 9-5's, 1999 the first year is accused of having more problems, but 9-5's in general have proven to be the most reliable of Saabs so even a 1st year 9-5 may be better than the vast majority of earlier Saabs. In any event I would not flat reject a 1999 9-5 either, very sound mechanically.
It's all good.
