I agree with the other comments that it's a buyers' market, especially for someone who's willing to walk if they don't get the price they want.
But the thing is that I imagine Saab's "conquest sales" munmbers aren't very pretty these days, won't be for awhile, and paying existing customers to trade is a desperate tactic in tough circumstances.
The economy is shaky and people are nervous about their jobs. This isn't an environment that welcomes major purchases. So if people are going to buy a new car whose depreciation historically is pretty steep, they want a nice box of $$$ on the hood. You have to be financially innocent to plunk down $40K for a car that will be worth $20K in three years. Maybe less. Worst scenario, the brand doesn't exist in three years.
Interesting thing: last summer my dealership sent an e-mail to owners and regular service customers saying -- and I quote -- I "beg" you to sell us your late model Saab.
We've owned a driveway full of Saabs, currently own two, love driving them -- but I am nervous about my favorite car brand.
