Saab should be compared to Lexus and Acuras (the class that the compete in). I just got a certified Acura and they have a great warranty program in which I only pay for oil, tires and brakes out of pocket, everything else is covered (material and labor) for the warranty period (got the extended to 100K/5yr).
If you want to spend less money, you will be downgrading to the Honda/Toyota cars, that are (but are not) the same as their luxury ones.
I love Saabs a lot, they ride like no other car I've driven, but I think that it has come the time (at least for me) to think with the head and not with the heart, buy a more reliable easier to fix car that has new technology in it (remember that the 9-5 was introduced in 1999).
