Coolant/Antifreeze Flush ideas. Posted by MikeJavo [Email] (#1093) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MikeJavo) on Fri, 8 Feb 2008 13:49:47 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I am planning on flushing the system very soon. I have posted this question before and received varying recommendations. I just received my Haynes manual, which covers the 2.3 and 2003 Linear. So far it's been an excellent read, but the flush procedure involves a garden hose and removing hoses and the thermostat housing. I've read that ordinary tap water isn't the best idea. I would much rather use distilled water.
I wish to perform the following procedure:
1. Drain current coolant.
2. Refill with distilled water and run for 1 minute with heat all the way on.
3. Drain again, perform steps 2 and 3 two more times.
4. Fill with a gallon of new Amsoil coolant and top up with distilled water.
Are there areas of the engine that the distilled water will not reach in one minute of running? Is it dangerous to run the car that long, and risk overheating, or is one minute not long enough? Can I damage any seals with just water? What about lubricating additives, I heard they exist, and may prolong water pump life.
Thanks in advance.
