I believe the cable runs along the passenger side, up the C-pillar to the roof area. The antennas are the vertical orange lines you see in the side windows on your SportKombi. Each side has (or had, they could have changed it...) its own amplifier, mounted in the roof. They are connected with a cable between them. It's not easy getting to those connections.
If you have not, try re-seating the radio in the dash, then take a magnifying glass and look over the lines on the side windows. Since that stuff is painted on the inside of the window, it's possible for them to get scratched if the car is loaded up.
