I like mine too!
I have heard that 3M makes an excellent product that is a thick plastic film and does not reduce the light by much. It is designed for this purpose. I have not used that.
I made my own from a a sheet of translucent plastic that I got from home depot. it is about an 1/8" thick (not a film by any means). I was able to cut it with shears slightly larger than the size of the lens. I "glued" it on the lens with a bead of clear silicone around the perimeter. Then popped the lens back in. cost me about $3 + silicone.
I know that my approach reduces the light output. The plastic I used is not perfectly clear. But the glass lens is now well protected by the thick plastic shield.
