The amount of power transfered through an electrical wire and several crimp connections will deteriorate with heat if a crimp connection is bad or if the choice of wire is too skinny.
The solenoid on starter requires a fair amount of power to kick in and it has been a problem on and off for decades where car makers has skimped on the wire thickness or the length of wire from battery to ignition switch to starter is too long.
The 84 and older 900 model was notorious with the starter mounted under exhaust manifold.
The 9000 model in the early 90s was also known to have starter problems due to undersized circuit.
But then you have the problem with gear selector switch where it fails when cold due to the sticky dielectric grease inside. That was usually found on the NG900 model but not so much on the 9-3 and 9-5 model.
