Yes blown rings are pretty expensive. You may as well replace the engine. If the car is in decent shape otherwise and you still like it you could get a used engine installed for a few grand. It would be cheaper than getting a new car, and blown rings aren't all that common on Saabs so the chances of it happening again are slim. I would get it properly diagnosed by a Saab specialist before you make any big decisions though.
