I was able to get the old lines over the replacement ends without using heat. I wanted to avoid a heatgun so the plastic didn't deform and was as tight as possible. The "trick" was to borrow/rent from an autoparts place a brake flare tool kit. The tool is a sort of a clamp with 5 or 6 different sizes of holes, pick the one that fits the fuel line snugly without crushing it. Allow a little bit, maybe 1/8", of fuel line to stick out and force the new end onto it. Then release the clamp, edge out a little more line, rinse and repeat. The purpose of the clamp is to allow you to put enough force on the plastic end to force it onto the line without the line bending. Plus it gives you something to hold onto the fuel line with, otherwise you just can't hold it tight enough with your fingers. You'll be adjusting the clamp and the amount of line sticking out often, otherwise the end will stop going into the line. Eventually it will go on, although I didn't get it on quite as far as the original. If you cut some of the line off and it's short you can tug a little more slack out of it, there is some play in it. Good luck, it's doable.
