I think I've got it fixed. There was no way the line was going to stretch given how much was cut or deformed. So I had to connect a piece of fuel injection hose.

Wish I'd known your process a few days ago. It would have saved a lot of time. I wound up puting a brass compression fitting on the line and a brass sleve inside to prevent it from crushing. I'm pretty sure all the leaks are gone now that I have all the parts tightened up.

Like you, I was trying to be careful with that connector but it was just too brittle.

The good thing is that the car runs, and I didn't have buy a $520 module. Rebuilding the old module with the new pump was actually the easiest part of the job.
