Hi-
I flew down from Maine to North Carolina to look at and buy the car. My wife will be driving it home next week as she has family scattered along the East Coast.
It has 52,000 miles and was maintained by Tom Townsend, whom I found to be a great and talented guy. We spent a few hours looking it over and removed the valve cover. It had all the service records, but a couple of the oil change intervals were a bit long--8000miles. The space under the valve cover really did look clean, and Tom seemed confident that there should be no problem. The only discoloration was around the timing chain, but this was quite minimal and stable.
1) Should this be enough peace of mind, or should I still remove the oil pan soon?
2) What about modifying the oil pick up screen? Overkill or worth it?
3) Also, it had PCV update #4 in 2006, but not #6. How important is this?
In all this, please note the climatic difference the car will see from NC to ME.
Thanks, Mike
