I did mine yesterday (Spring must be time for brakes!) Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 03 Aero - Rear Brake installation instructions, Blake, Mon, 7 Apr 2008 06:26:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Yesterday was the second time I have replaced rotors on my 2000 lpt. I am assuming the 2003 is identical. My comments are:
1) Do not set the parking brake. Don't laugh, many have done this. With the parking brake engaged you WILL NOT be able to remove the rotor.
2) Have a large can of brake cleaner and some disposable toweling to clean off the crud during disassembly. Also have a can of PB Blast to dissolve any rust and chemically loosen the bolts.
3) There is very little clearance between the caliper bolt heads and the rear springs. I use a Torx bit in a flex-head socket drive handle (thinner than a ratchet) to break the caliper bolts loose, then use my fingers to turn the Torx bit and extract the bolts.
4) The caliper bracket bolts are 18mm. You may need a short breaker bar to loosen these. I used anti-seize on mine 5 years ago so they came out with double arm strength on a 1/2-inch ratchet.
I spent around 3 hours replacing pads and rotors at all four corners.
