Maybe a lifter? Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Wed, 23 Apr 2008 11:46:27 In Reply to: Marbles under my valve cover, zrsio4, Wed, 23 Apr 2008 10:19:25 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Maybe a collapsed/gummed lifter? It's difficult to say though without actually hearing it. Your best bet is to probably bring it to a reputable Saab tech. When I bought my 9-5 it had been sitting over the winter in Maine for 6 months. It had some crazy noises under the hood when I first got it, one of which I believe was a gummed lifter. I made a quick video of what it sounded like outside and inside the car (there's a faint ticking sound like a card stuck in bike spokes), and then a video of what it sounds like now, a little smoother. I didn't have to do anything to mine it just went away after a couple hundred miles. I wouldn't wait around to see what happens though. Mine is the V6 but lifter noise is lifter noise is lifter noise regardless of engine. Good luck!
