Redirector,
You obviously like Saab and I obviously like my BMW better after owning 3 Saabs. So, that is fine.
But, when buying cars over $35,000, one starts to look at other things besdies HP stats and space. If that were the only criteria, we could all go out and buy Ford Crown Vic V-8's with the Police Pack for $25,000. That is bang for the buck and for another $5000 I could have a supecharger and better suspension installed. The Ford has a larger trunk and back seat than the Saab.
To me the BMW feels like a better package. My 530 is far superior to the 1999 9-5LPT that I had. And, I prefer the 530 to an Aero. Sure the Aero is faster, but how fast do you need? I think that the 530 is a nicer car than the 540 anyhow; it steers better and the engine is smoother and sounds nicer.
I have driven the 9-5 2.3lpt and the 525 as rentals in Europe on the motorways at very high speeds for long periods of time. At high speeds the BMW feels better , it is quieter and is more stable in crosswinds. The Saab has more torque, but the BMW has a nice throttle response at high speeds. There is no real difference in gas consumption. If I had a choice I would be driving a 530 Diesel if it were offered in the USA.
Have you driven a 2002 530i? For how long? Where you able to push the car hard or was the sales guy with you? Did you ask for a price quote? I did drive the Saab Aero 4 times by myself. I drove a total of about 100 miles by myself. I got a very good price of about $36,000. But I liked the BMW better and it will not depcreciate as fast as the Saab. So, the BMW cost about $42,000 loaded and to me the $7,000 was worth the difference. (that would buy 116 bottles of your precious Barolo ) I do not feel like I was fleeced.
So, what is with your smart ass remarks about my negotiating and spending habits? Get a life. You do not even know me. I did not attack you personally, so please just calm down and remember this is a discussion forum. Would you say those things to my face if we were talking to each other? I think not. Besides, I think you are silly for buying $60 bottles of wine; what a waste. If you cannot find a $12-$20 bottle of wine that you can enjoy, then you are a sucker and should be looking at your own spening habits. And besides, if you can afford $60 bottle of wine, why are you even discussing the price difference between a Saab and a BMW? Or are you just a Poseur that likes to say the word "Barolo" to impress people?
So you started the flame war and I will stop now as I am sure that you will get the last word anyhow. Enjoy your Aero; it is a nice car, better than what most people will ever drive. But I stand by my statements that I made in my earlier post.
